We have heard of many countries embracing Linux as their OS of choice. Russia just gave a hint of switching government computers from proprietary software to open source softwares. We are also familiar that China uses it’s very own version of OS based on Linux called NeoKylin. A team from Nepal is also putting a lot of effort to build an Open Source Operating System for Nepalese people.
There are a small number of people in Nepal who use genuine operating system shipped directly from the vendor. People are used to with using pirated copies of different operating systems available in the market.
People purchase pirated copies of operating systems and try different cracks and patches to run those operating systems once the trial period is over.
One common example of such operating system is Windows 7 . You can find pirated versions of Windows 7 in almost all the DVD shops of Nepal. Buying and using pirated copies of these operating systems will always put you under risk of viruses and other various security issues.

Nepal’s very own Chitwanix OS
Realizing the need of an operating system here in Nepal for the people a team from Chitwan, Nepal started developing Chitwanix which is Nepal’s widely loved Open Source Operating System.
Chitwanix is based on Ubuntu and Debian which gives you access to the Ubuntu repository hence updating you with the latest packages available on their archive. The first version of Chitwanix rolled out on September 2013 and ever since the team has been dedicating a lot of time and applying a lot of effort to make this OS a true replacement for the modern day pirated operating system available on the market.
The desktop environment is called “Sagarmatha Desktop” named after the famous mountain situated in Nepal and the naming convention for Chitwanix releases may vary as they follow a specific convention. Famous places , names of people with historic importance and verbal sequences are some factors that depend upon the release names.
Sagarmatha Desktop to my experience is sleek and will give you a homely feel if you are migrating from Windows.
Chitwanix is rolling out version 2.0 really soon. You might want to try it after it is available for all
You can download Chitwanix OS from their Official Website
[UPDATE] : We just found out that NepaLinux was the first distribution from Nepal but it has stopped pushing updates from 2008 . So, Chitwanix is the only OS from Nepal for Nepali Market currently . History aside, Chitwanix is really a great OS for Nepali Users and you might want to try it.
